Because of its unique natural character, the whole Rhön had been declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve. A biosphere reserve demands a thoughtful organisation of gliding competitions and a careful and environmentally conscious behaviour of all participants. They will be rewarded with immaculate grassland and unforgettable and breathtaking landscapes.
To balance the interests the “Gesellschaft (Society) zur Förderung des Segelflugs auf der Wasserkuppe” agreed to become patron of the Euro Champs. The Society will assure car parking as close as possible to the starting lines and will provides necessary facilities to our disposal.

September 18th (reserve day), the administration of the biosphere reserve invites to an excursion to inform about specially protected places within the Rhön area.
Originally grassland, the Rhön is nowadays partly covered with woods.
